I've recently become addicted to Henry Rono's training diary and he's had a big problem with his weight (at one point he was around 16 stone which is rather a lot for a little Kenyan guy). He's fasting at the moment. Here's his latest entry...

On my second run and the sun hitting on top of my face.My knees are so weak, no food in the stomatch. It was good climbing the copper hill for 30 minutes. The breathing is great alot of white mucuses coming off the lungs.

cleaning up those old lungs with gatorades. Here is the the rhythm of high knees and the arm form of drive,Oh! it looks great!I can see myself and it is 28 years ago.

My stable weights is 185lbs on the four day of fasting.
I like the body feelings and the memory is 28 years ago.

I'm now addicted to training and fasting. What else do I need only loose weight right!Phaes III is coming!!!!!!

"28 years ago" is when Henry Rono broke the world records for 3k 5k 10k and steeplechase all within 80 days....

I did read some of his stuff when you mentioned him before. I'll take a look later, and will drop him a line. Is he still posting on the same place you mentioned last time?

Andy, semi-serious suggestion - maybe you should try this. Scott Adams always has some interesting things to say - in this case about success and failure.

Thanks Dan, I'll read that with interest.

Will post an update this evening.

Interesting stuff Dan.
The only down side to affirmations that immediately springs to mind is what happens if/ when the significant other in your life finds your endlessly repeated mantra on reams of paper stashed under your printer?

A friend of mine had what you might call an adverse reaction when trying this on a family vacation.

But in all seriousness this may be worth further investigation.
I'm starting one of my own this week.
I, Sweder, will stop aiding and abetting SP in his quest to drain the Lewes Guinness reservoir . . .

Now, did you type that over and over or did you copy and paste it? If the latter then it's no wonder it didn't work. Rolleyes

What can I say? I've not run in weeks.

It's all gone wrong again, and I can't face the thought of writing about it, because... because there's really nothing to write about.

I think I may have blown it this time. A mixture of stuff - work, bereavement, lardiness, beer and crisps, lethargy, a calf twinge, fatigue, demotivation, dark evenings.... just at the moment it all seems insuperable. I know it isn't, but I'm strugging to 'get my head right'.

Odd really, as things are going pretty well in general. I just don't have any energy. I seriously wonder if I have an allergy of some kind. Something ain't right. I'm always, always tired.

Every night I go to bed, telling myself that I'll get up at 6 and go for a run. Who knows? Maybe it really will happen tomorrow morning...

Try not to stress about it Andy - the yearn will return, as they say. All in good time.

Hey, that's the way it goes sometimes mate.

I had a taste of that bitter medicine today, turning out with my Golf Society for the first time in a while. To borrow the American vernacular I 'stunk the place up', hacking my way to a lowly 20 points before drowning my sorrows in the bar with SP. I'll probably pack the sticks away for another month or two.

I'll eventually take them out and learn to love them again.
We just need a little time apart.

You still planning on coming to Brighton on the 10th?

The 10th?

Or the 19th?

If the latter, yes, that's the plan. If I don't get to the start line, I reckon that's it. No chance of TOM.

If I can manage a 10K in mid-November, that will do me a lot of good. Can push on from there. But I do need to get there.

That reminds me. Must read Dan's Scott Adams piece. I bookmarked it and didn't read it.

Must do that tomorrow...

I believe the race is now full. 3000 signed up.

And I even had a dream about the 10K last night. I was sitting in a pub in Brighton and someone said "the race starts in 15 minutes". I downed my pint and hurried off to the start line, changing into my kit as I went. I had no safety pins so had to start the race holding my number against my chest with my hands. The horror was obviously too much for me as I woke up at that point.

Make of that what you will.... Big Grin

Andy, for a writer of some sophistication, your subconcious seems to be on an altogether less subtle plane!

3000? Better sharpen those elbows...
