Thanks, I did. It was a preview rather than a review, but good to read anyway.

You mean this one?

Ha ha! Excellent! Mind you, something of a busman's holiday for you, surely? I enjoyed hearing about your roadying exploits in the Irish bar in Almería this year.

When is this happening?

Looks like Thursday 23rd November in Portsmouth or the following day in Folkstone. It's been 25 years since I lugged a bass-bin in anger. I'm told I'm not expected to do an awful lot of graft . . . more like hang out with the crew, partake of some light refreshment, watch the set get built, try to foul up the mixing desk and wind up watching the gig from stage left. PR have asked me to take plenty of photos for their website . . . no doubt a 'race report' will feature here too.

I'm pretty jazzed about it to be honest - after all, I still love the music (even if the pharmaceutical enhancements, like most of my hair, fell by the wayside some time ago). I get a couple of guest tickets, too, which I've earmarked for my son Jake and SP. I'm hoping they'll dedicate Ace of Spades to the old scroat . . .

Sounds great. A bit like me being invited to carry Jez Lowe's mandolin from his Sierra estate into the folk club. A dream come true.

SP? Seriously? What a hoot. He's been a bit quiet about Almería. Surely he won't be able to resist? It wouldn't be the same without the fellow.

There's work to be done to land the brute I reckon.
Still, I like a challenge.

Ah, I get it. The Motorhead gig is a bargaining counter. "Oh OK then, you don't have to come to the gig if you come to Almería instead..."

Hmm. Most ingenious.

Yeah, he has to come. There's no two ways about it.

So who's the lardiest at the moment? Andy or SP?

I ask purely for information.

Speaking entirely as a neutral observer, you understand (and not having seen Andy L for a few months), they're both making John Prescott look surprisingly svelt Big Grin

To be fair, SP's not looking that corpulent - he's been hacking out the odd game of tennis here and there.

Yeah!

I'm only around 18 pounds err....less svelte than when I ran my last marathon.

I do actually class myself as being relatively fit, although there's a helluva lot of difference between being fit for tennis, and fit for running. :o

Hmm, that actually sounds pretty encouraging, not to mention somewhat enthusiastic - so you'll be lining up in Almeria then?

No contest. I'm undoubtedly the Lard Almighty at the moment. 232 pounds on Monday morning. 202 in Zurich. 182 for nearly all my adult life, before I stopped smoking a few years ago. Could do with getting it down to that again. Nothing would help more with running.

Have just been out for an early morning 3.5 miles -- without a walk break! Miracles can happen. Will write it up later. Perhaps things aren't so bad after all.

Good on yer!
Inspired by the Battle of Barcelona? Great theatre, huge drama, fabulous nonsense and about the right result. Even my daughter stood up and cheered when Robben got booked, and she hates football.

One run follows another . . . and even when the rough ones strike they're still infinitely better than returning to the Woodbines. Eh SP?

Awful result, as far as I'm concerned. I was hoping for something in the 6-1 area for Barca.

We'll have to disagree there mate. Much as I dislike Chelsea - and they did nothing to enhance their 'good name' last night - it would stick in my craw to see the likes of Puyol, Marquez and the homocidal Motta get anything more than a point. T'was a veritable cheatfest Sad
