Time To Face The Music
Since cresting the summit of Mount Wellington I appear to have ingested the mountain's mass in red meat. Australia offers a feast for carnivores, washed down with tasty local ales and a bewildering array of excellent wines. I've taken full advantage, and now closely resemble the fellow in the Southern Comfort ads.



As has just been discussed on MLCMMan's current thread, there is much work to be done before March. 'Beware the Ides of March' for the Moyleman is waiting to crush the ill-prepared, not to mention the Lardy and the Weak.

Long runs will be key. Short, focused mid-week sessions, certainly, but time on your feet is what is needed to cover the Big Distance. Looking back on the heady days of Steyning, (unofficial) sub 1:40 halfs and the mighty Two Oceans, this was our mantra. Don't settle for twenty miles on a Sunday when twenty-three were needed.
Suck it up, big Fella. Feel the burn. You'll thank me in the long run.

I will continue to over-indulge this week, hanging out with the Great and the Good from the world of Diabetes. Oh, the irony! But, deep in my fat-encrusted heart, I'll know that every extra bite, every drop of ale, is another step further away from the summit of Mount Caburn.

A long road lies ahead.

Sadly, Australia IS becoming the world leader in in sloth, obesity and diabetes. It's a cultural change reflected in the performance of our representative sporting teams which, on the whole, have been disastrously disappointing in recent years (although we'll see how we go in the Word Rugby League final tonight).

In your case however, you may as well enjoy it. You have a few months of seriously hard training ahead of you, I fear. Once you get the Moyleman established, are you thinking of making it a JDRF event?
Run. Just run.

Yes indeed. Seems right to include a 'local' charity partner, too. I don't see it ever becoming a mass event in the same vein as Brighton, so two charity partners should be ample. We'll probably include a compulsory donation in the registration fee, with an option to add to that or fund-raise on top.

That said, this is not the main focus of the run. That remains to give runners from far and wide a true taste of Sussex, including our delicious hills and divine ales.

Non update
Runs have been rare as hen's teeth in recent days. Work has taken over, my legs are battered and sore and every ounce of energy is being poured into this (excellent) World Diabetes Congress. Excuses, excuses.

On the plus side I am not forcing myself to run on tired limbs, but nor am I resting them, either, walking on average 10k plus per day. I'm eating and drinking for two, which will come back to haunt me next week when I return to the icy clasp of Mother England and the reality of The Moyleman being just twelve short weeks away.

Gulp.

Dogs Life
Thanks for that, Dan. I remember hearing that warning about young dogs when I hired the latest recruits. Happily they tick all the running boxes, aside from the last remark. After the ten milers they're just as knackered as me Big Grin

Good Lord, it's December.
Heading home today (leave Saturday, get home Sunday). A run in the hills with my faithful hounds is just what the doctor/ dietician/ wardrobe ordered.
