It´s surprising that there was no beer at Aqualung. Anyway, Molly Malone was too noisy inside for me. I liked National Geographic more. It was quieter and the Rioja was quite good in spite of our breaking the first bottle. Besides, the tapas were all right in spite of not being a bar. Anyway, "Quinto Toro" and other tapas bars are waiting for us.

Looking forward to meeting all of you soon.

Antonio
I include a snap from that night at National Geographic,
Oh dear.

Eek
Sorry, Andy. I forgot you´re on a alcohol free diet now. Smile
Bloody papparazzi . . .
Apologies that I've been offline for a while.

And although I booked my flight months ago, I only rather belatedly entered the race and booked the hotel yesterday. Fortunately, there was still space for me in both.

It's just a shame, then, that my knee has been playing up recently. I'm sadly restricted to cycling at the moment (sigh).

Final week speed preparation (ho ho) will be ditched, then, in favour of complete rest, with the aim of at least being able to limp around Almería on Sunday.

Nevertheless, you'll be reassured to know that my carbohydrate-consuming capabilities are indeed peaking perfectly in preparation for next weekend.

Qué vamanos, amig@s !
Looks like the non-Spanish party are all in the race now (I just entered a few minutes ago after a reminder from Antonio) -- Sweder, Nigel, Suzie, PaulK, me. (I keep thinking I must have missed someone....?)

Nigel - sorry to hear about the knee. I'll need some company at the back, though I doubt if you're as badly crocked as that. I'll definitely get round but this is by far the worst condition I've been in for Almeria. I'm around 10 pounds heavier than last year, and 12 more than the year before. Longest recent run is 10 miles so I'm sure I'll make it, but it's going to be deeply unattractive to witness, especially the final 12 miles or so.

Aim is simple -- not to finish last. I can't find last year's results but I think there were about 30 behind me, and I was in much better shape then than I am now, so I'm making no assumptions.
Good luck everybody, have a good run and enjoy Almeria!! I hope the local tavernas have enough Guinness ordered in.
I am sorry I can't be there, I tried in vain to get a weekend pass, but with Australia looming large and a long weekend in April to run the Enschede Marathon and a possibility of going to the US, I knew the answer.
Hi Guys

Just setting off to the airport to catch the 1530 flight to Murcia from John Lennon. Looking forward to meeting up with you all on the Saturday. Only dampner is I have to leave straight after the race due to a family committment, ah well looking forward to the race. Oh the weather forcast is cool on the day, which will suit us Brits to the ground. Safe journey see you shortly.

Paul

PS Antonio has got my Spanish mobile number if anyone needs to speak
It´s a pity you can´t come this year, LJS. Let´s hope you can next year. Good luck with your challenges as well.

I hope you arrived well,Paul. We´re looking forward to meeting you and your wife on Saturday.

Saludos desde Almería.

Antonio
14 degrees forecast for Sunday, but possibly a bit windy.

Doesn't sound too bad compared with the sub-zeros we've had this week, and today's snow.
Conditions look good for us Northerners Big Grin

Just returned from a pre-race hydration meeting with the Mighty SP.
A little tame on my part - I broke my January duck with a Guinness but ended with a coffee :o A good choice as, apart from a run first thing tomorrow and technically still being on the wagon, I had to drive home.
Sweder Wrote:Just returned from a pre-race hydration meeting with the Mighty SP......I broke my January duck with a Guinness

Nothing wrong with a gentle session in the nets, as it were, before the big match on Sunday evening. You've got to get your eye in.

Have had a couple of 4 milers this week. Didn't feel too fit, it has to be said, but I'm still looking forward to Sunday.
Antonio -- any thoughts about a post-race eating place?
Yup. Did what I could with Sweder to give him some last minute pointers on race strategy and the benefit of err...my vast experience in the Guinness department.

Good luck to all you Amleriaites old and new, and may the second slog up La Rambla be a breeze. Eek

Just emailed Molly Malone to suggest they order an extra keg, keep the tapas and puntillitas flowing and have some decent skirt on for Andy.

La suerte está echada. Wink

I'm confused. What do I need a skirt for? I never buy clothes for my dear wife...

Talking of whom, she seems to think that you and Sweder lead me astray. She calls you "the naughty boys". Big Grin

And she's only seen us when we've been sensible...Big Grin
I forgot to mention that I had booked a restaurant at the sea front which has typical Spanish meals. The place is smaller than Club de Mar but I think it is fine and you will like it.
I´ve just talked to PaulK on the phone. We´re meeting on Saturday at the stadium before the pasta dinner.
It´s a pity SP and M., Andy´s wife can´t come this time. We´ll miss them.
Today it is sunny. However, it is snowing in many parts of Spain, especially in the north.

Have a nice trip!

Luckily there's still one 'naughty boy' left . . . Big Grin
I forgot to mention that the restaurant is called "Building" because it is situated in the ground floor of a block of flats called "Star building".

This morning I saw the avenues painted with the blue lines of the half marathon.

Saludos desde Almería
