I suggest meeting at 7 pm at the Tryp hotel and have dinner at 8:30 pm at the Tagliatella.

What about the post half marathon meal? Shall I book at 3 pm on Sunday at Plaza de Cañas?

Hi Antonio,

Yes it is getting very close now and I'm getting very excited about coming back to Almeria.

I so hope that we get some sunny weather for our weekend. At the moment the forecast for Almeria is looking pretty grim for this week through to next week apart from Saturday which could be sunny. SadSad

7pm in the Tryp reception is good for Saturday night followed by dinner.

I spoke to Camilla about her eating habits and she eats fish but not Meat (the complete opposite to me)!! Do you think that this is going to be a problem at la Plaza de Canas? Hopefully they can give us a mixture of veggie, meat and fish dishes as it does not seem like we can choose just a meat option or fish option. What do you think??

I hope that we can still go to la 'Plaza de Canas' as this was one of my highlights of last years trip. What do you think?? But 3pm sounds good as we will need to walk to the restaurant.

What about pre-registration? Is that up the hill at he other hotel again?
Are we going to do that between 7 and 8.30? I guess so. Sorry I've not bee more involved here this week - work is very challenging and I've barely looked at the forum.

Jules looks like I'll pick you guys up on saturday morning & leave the car at LGW. I'll pre-book parking today to get a decent rate. If everyone has their borading pass (and no check-in luggage) we need to be at security by 05:00. That makes pick-up in/ around Brighton at 04:15 - 04:20.

I don´t think there will be any problem with the food, Julie. I´ll try to sort it out soon.

Yes, Sweder, the hotel is the one uphill before the Mediterráneo shopping centre.

Have a safe journey!
I´ve already booked both restaurants. No problem with the fish or the meat dishes. A plate of roasted vegetables suggested at the restaurant instead for Julie and Camilla.

Great stuff. We all have our boarding passes (myself, cam and Simon). I'll tell them to be round at my house between 4:10-4:15 then we should get a swift get away by 4:20am. You okay coming to mine - it makes sense as it's just off the by-pass?

See you on Saturday, Julie Smile
Have a great weekend, folks. Safe journey, good weather, smooth running and plenty of rehydration.
Hmm, suppose I should think about packing some running gear. Hadn't dawned on me until today that I'm running a half on Sunday.
Oops.
Safely landed in Malaga & transferred to the Tryp Indalo via a lovely seafront cafe somewhere in between. Basked in warm sunshine over racciones, cafe con leche and tortilla espanola before reaching our familiar HQ.

I can't remember being this fat or unprepeared for a race. What fun!
Off to the Mercado for fruit, unhealthy nibbles & water, thence to the seafront for more coffee & toasting before driving our two Almeria newbies around the course. Antonio at 7, Race HQ/ registration and the RC pasta party. Phew!
Safely home in one piece.
For 'live' race updates and pictures visit Sweder's Twitter feed or go to Twitter.com and search #Almeria. Elevation and distance map of new course below.

2010 (old course) rise/ fall +/- 268 metres
2011 (new course) rise/ fall +/- 200 metres

Summary: very warm, light breeze, big turn-out
RC squad Times (unofficial):
Simon: 1:41
Moylebird: 1:42
Santi: 1:44
Sweder: 1:51
Ladyrunner: 2:01 (race-walking)
Antonio: 2:16

Race report to follow.
Next: re-hydration

El Cuckoo: I've tried to embed this code to offer a Yfrog feed.
Clearly I'm a Luddite and so have failed miserably. Kindly have a (very quick) look and see what's up.

Wow, 1:51 for someone who is fat and unprepared (your words!) is pretty astonishing Sweder! But congrats to everyone; another excellent result for RCers!
Great work, people! I ran my own 13 miles last night in homage to you all. Hope you have now taken on lots of carbs, in both liquid and solid forms.

I see that the official results are already up. Search for "RUNNING COM" to find our boys and girls.
Gracias, MLCM and Dan. We had a good time both at the race and at the restaurant and Molly Malone. We had a lot of liquid and solid carbs and enjoyed them a lot. This evening we´ll continue with rehydration at "El Quinto Toro".

Thank you to Dan, EC and MLCM for their good luck wishes. You guys missed a brilliant weekend. I will probably still be talking about our weekend this time next year when we are due to travel over for El Medio Maraton Ciudad de Almeria 2012.

Having spent 6 months learning Spanish before leaving for Almeria I really enjoyed attempting to have a spanish conversation with the locals. I met a few interesting characters for a chat. The lessons commence again tomorrow. Smile

A big thank you to Antonio (1) and Manolo for organising our evening entertainment of lovely food, cerveza, vino tinto, guiness, and interesting very late night establishments. And also to Sweder for his brilliant driving skills (especially after sleep deprivation Big Grin) and joint co-organising of the trip.

Welcome back Julie, I guess you've answered the question about whether you'll be going next year! Smile

Would be interested to hear sometime how your race went, particularly considering your tantalising finish time - were you tempted to run the last mile to get sub 2?

Good to hear that it was a memorable event.

Hola, Julie

I´m glad you enjoyed your weekend in Almería. We also had a very good time with you, Cam, Sweder and Simon. It was a pleasure to meet Marian and her friends and I also liked seeing PaulK and Heather although we were together just a few minutes.

Congratulations again on your fantastic race walking time. It was great to keep your pace for a few kilometres. I wish I could have kept it for the whole course to have done the same time as you. Wel, I´d love to be able to achieve it next year.

¡Mucha suerte en el campeonato de España de marcha en marzo, Julie! Best of luck at the Spanish championship in March!

You can have a look at these photos from the medio maratón.

Too early to raise this topic?

Big Grin

I must get there this time. No idea if I'll be taking part, but I need the vibe, man.

Any other early takers?

And while I'm at it, any interest in a Swiss race?

It will be great to meet you here next year, EG. Let´s hope you can do at least the 10 km race.I´ll phone late to find out if the race will be on the last Sunday of January.

I´m also interested in taking part in a race in Switzerland.
