Cruel Running Songs
Doubtless we all have some of our favourite, highly motivating running songs,
like the ubiquitous "Born To Run" of Bruce Springsteen, or Tina Turner's "Simply The Best", but while searching for suitable sings for my own collection I found a few doozies of the less-than-helpful kind. Actually, Tina Turner started all this with her dose of reality for would-be runners, "We Don't Need Another Hero".

There were a couple of other obvious ones, like Jackson Browne's "Running On
Empty" or Aretha Franklin's "Rescue Me", but I found a few other gems as well:

In Too Deep - Genesis
Out Of Time - Rolling Stones
What Kind Of Fool Am I - Sammy Davis Jr

or for the cynics:

King Of Wishful Thinking - Go West
Say Goodbye To It All - Chris De Burgh
Wishin' and Hopin' - Dionne Warwick

while the masochists would like:

1000 Miles Away - Hoodoo Gurus
Let's Go Round Again - Average White Band
Left Outside Alone - Anastasia

but my favourites would have to be the very sympathetic:

Fool (If You Think It's Over) - Chris Rea

and one that definitely suits me on long runs:

Resurrection Shuffle - Ashton Garner & Dyke.

Any others, music lovers?
Run. Just run.

Runin' Up That Hill, Kate Bush

(Just Another) Brick In The Wall, Pink Floyd

Anything by Phil Collins severely threatens my will to live, too.
Nice thread Smile

Run For Home and Runnin With The Devil would be on my upbeat soundtrack, along with Running Down A Dream and Keep On Runnin'. Behind the obvious choice, of course - Ace Of Spades.

Eek I do hope I haven't mis-read your love of that particular song, SP.
Otherwise it's off to Woolies with the receipt and your Christmas present this afternoon . . .

Kenneth Wolstenholme's commentary of QPR's historic League Cup Final victory of 1967 does it for me.

I was walkin' down the street
Concentratin' on truckin' right
I heard a dark voice beside of me
And I looked round in a state of fright
I saw four faces one mad
A brother from the gutter
They looked me up and down a bit
And turned to each other

I say I don't like cricket oh no

etc...Big Grin

4. Barracuda - Heart
3. Achillies Last Stand - Led Zeppelin
2. Theme from Rocky - Err - some Orchestra or other (great for hill/ steps work)
1. Runnin' Down A Dream - Tom Petty

Imagine a smokey bar, waaay too late, JD on the rocks, or perhaps a single malt, couples smooching and the barman is drying glasses.....

That kinda music.

Grover Washington Jnr, or perhaps Roy Ayers, and I've just discovered Anthony Hamilton...terrific! Soul, spilling into funk and Blues. Think Ry Cooder, or George Clinton......or War. And so it goes on.......
