[The Beast of Bevendean]

It was a great pleasure to have your company, unofficial though it may have been. My abiding image of the 2012 Seaford Half (for I still hadn't finished when you were wrestling with the sea-god, so missed that visually memorable experience) is of the section after Fiveways where we descend only to climb again, a long slow slog of over a mile. As I approached it, I saw a line of runners going up in front of me, like a Doré illustration from the Paradisio, blessed souls ascending into heaven, though wearing primary-coloured lycra rather than robes of white samite.
