I'll check with the Ho-meister but I had him down as 'thinking about it'.
Yes, Gary's off to Abingdon (?) for his super-quick 26.2 - best wishes for a safe and swift marathon.

I wondered if anyone had thought about sharing rooms; some of them will have twin beds as opposed to doubles and I believe price is per room (might have to double-check that).

I´ve just had a look at this thread and I´ve seen a lot of new posts.

The room costs the same for one or two people if you choose just the bed without breakfast. If you want me to check if you can get a better price as a group, I can do it on Monday.

I´m glad you enjoyed the Spanish food and beer, MLCM. It´s a pity you can´t come in 2009. Maybe in 2010.

Best of luck

Antonio

OK, consensus at BHTT was for the earlier flight (07.35) - no-one want's to get up at the crack of dawn but equally we'd all prefer to take it easy once we get there.

Room-wise we'll need 6 rooms to cover
Sweder, Gillybean, Julie, Gary, SP, El Gordo, Special Guest and significant others. Not sure about Steve S & his 2 - that'll be another 2 or 3 rooms.

Waiting to hear from Stillwaddler, Niguel and Simon H.
Stevio and MSilv are super-doubtful at the moment.

Hi,

I'm still thinking about it, how are the numbers working out? I don't want to throw the numbers out for the mini bus.

Yeah, let's not worry about transport at this stage. If we have too many people for one vehicle, we'll get two -- simple as that. There'll be enough of us to make the cost reasonable, whatever we do.

Probables:
El Gordo (21K)
Sweder (21k) + 1 (NR)
Seafront Plodder +1
Ladyrunner (21k)
GaryChristie (21k)
Steve Sheekey (21k) + Jeremy West (21k) + Terry May (10k)
Gillybean (21k)
Ana (21K?) +?
'Special Guest + 1'

Thinking About It:
Stillwaddler
Mr SW
Niguel
Simon + 3 (?)

Simon has three friends interested. They'll be coming from Luton-ish so will book flights from there. Confirmation by next Saturday (hopefully). 2 , possibly 4 sharing so this would add 2 or 3 rooms to our total.

Added to probables with sharers considered we're looking at at least 10 rooms, most likely 12. Let's ask for a commitment on rooms at least by end of next weekend so we can negotiate a block room rate from Monday 3rd November onward.

We can determine numbers flying from LGW and calculate vehicles. I'll get onto the rental outfits this week to source rates/ options. Consensus amongst the Brighton crew + SP is to go for the 07:35 Monarch flight (see below). There's still no indication from Easyjet that they will alter the schedule for January.

Saturday 31 Jan - LGW-Murcia 07:45,
Tuesday 3 Feb - Murcia-LGW 20:00, arr LGW 21:30

Current numbers for this route are from 8 to 12 people (2 people carriers/ minivans).

Tripadvisor is showing the Tryp Indalo as now sold out for that period. The hotel website is showing rooms as available. Make of that what you will.

Either way, I would like to get this booked please. If someone is volunteering to organise a block booking and negotiate a rate, please go ahead. Otherwise, let's just do it. The sinking pound has probably wiped out any gains by now. Big Grin

Simon's confirmed now so waiting for his 'pluses' from Luton - looks like they will fly back Sunday if they come. I hate to put upon Antonio once again (really) but it might make sense for him to speak to the hotel about a rate for 12 rooms. Otherwise I'm with EG - let's post the hotel site link and let everyone book their own rooms.

If the pound sinks any further I may take a tent Eek

Thanks Antonio. Just try 12 standard rooms with breakfast, and let's see how we go from there. You can explain that some people may double up in rooms but we'll still want about 12 rooms. We can't give a final total at the moment but just ask the question please: is there a discount, and how much?

Thanks

Andy

As it's you, I'll forgive you for the attempted thread-hijack Wink.

It´s a pity you can´t come this year either, Stillwaddler.

Barcelona marathon is regarded as quite flat, flatter than Madrid which has got a lot of hills although the atmosphere in Madrid is better since there are more runners and public cheering than in Barcelona. Another flat marathon is San Sebastián in November. Barcelona is in March and Madrid in April.

I´ve phoned the hotel but I haven´t been able to talk to the person in charge because he wasn´t there. Anyway, the receptionist told me that she thought it would be difficult to get a lower price since it is really low - only 50 € a room + 7% VAT. Breakfast 5.50 € + VAT. Anyway, the organisation usually gets a competitive fee so that you can get the room and breakfast for the price of the room + VAT.

The price on the hotel website is 63 euros a night before tax for room and breakfast, or 202 euros for 3 nights including tax.

How do we get the organisation rate?
