I assume the absence of a 10K this year was a one-off, to do with the 'free entry' fiasco?

But yes I'm a possible for this, and a Swiss race sounds like a great idea.

Yes,I think it was to compensate expenses.

I phoned the Patronato Municipal de Deportes and they told me the race will be held on Sunday 29th January. Besides, this year there will be the 10 km race.

There are flights from Gatwick to Almería with WWW.easyjet.com

I might be interested in a Swiss race - what are the possibilities EG? And anyone thinking about Ireland next year? I'm not sure what my vacation plans are, but could possibly fit in flying over for one race - Ireland, Spain, Switzerland...?? I'm madly trying to get back into shape as I have a half coming up in two weeks...was a little lazy this summer and didn't run as much as I should have. Going to be painful I know.[/align]

Hi All

Thanks for the positive response to the possibility of a Swiss race. There isn't one in my home town, sadly, so I need to find something that seems worth travelling for.

Watch this space.

Yes I will put my name down. Think Cam and Simon also interested again next year Smile Smile

Hope everyone is well. I'm trying to get back after a triple jump accident 8 weeks ago but still suffering with my hamstring/glute!! Walking not too painful now but running is.

Great to hear you're planning a return to those mean Andalucian streets Jules. Sorry to hear about your injuries though. Get well soon x

WOW - I've just checked the Easyjet flights to Almeria and it seems that they have changed.

There is a Saturday morning flight Gatwick to Almeria at 6:20am, and a Tuesday morning return flight back at 11:30am. Does this mean that we do not need to drive from Malaga or Murcia??

Price at the moment is £53.98 return. Smile

I hope you're right about the flights, Julie BUT be aware that this flight was also timetabled the year they first withdrew it. It's the one we always used to take before they removed it 3 years ago. So they might be dipping a toe in the water again to see how many bookings they get. (It won't be a decision based just on that day, obviously -- I guess they'll look at the season in general.) But yep, it would be great if it was restored.

As for me, I'll have to make a decision whether to go via LGW. Seems nuts to go via LGW if you look at a map, but is probably a less pricey option.

Really sorry to hear about the injury. Hope that gets sorted soon - and certainly well in time for Almeria training.

I hope you get better from your injury, J., so that you can do the half marathon without pain.

I´m looking forward to meeting all the people who can come next year.
I´m sure we all will have a good time.

I'm booking that now. Why not? I'm going and I'd really like to fly direct next year. Hooray!

OK I've booked in for those flights. I've also booked luggage (1 piece) ata whopping 28 quid per piece.
I suggest we use my luggage for all toiletries etc to avoid the plastic bag nonsense - we can re-pack the bag at Gatwick and share out the goodies in Almeria. Might have space for one or two extra items. Others can then just have hand-carry and save some dough.

So ... flights sorted ... what about the hotel??? Is anyone violently opposed to the Trypp Indalo? Or is there a better offer to be had?
Bear in mind we won't be able to check in too early on Saturday - usually around 3pm or so.

This is fantastic, S.!

I´ll check other hotels near the city centre such as Gran hotel Almería, Hotel Torreluz, the first hotel you stayed when you came oin 2005 or Hotel Costasol, which is very near Molly Malone´s.

Check in is usually after 12 pm in Spain but if you arrive earlier there isn´t usually any problem to get your room.

I´ve checked the hotels. If you want to be in the city centre and you aren´t going to rent a car, I´d advise these two options.

If you have any question, please ask me!

Best of luck!

Tryp Indalo is fine for me, but happy to go with the flow. That hotel the first year was good too - great location, though parking was a bit of a pain. Ha! Feeling quite excited already.

I'm trying to decide if I go to Almeria ... or if someone is thinking of Ireland in April?? Any thoughts on other races? If I do Almeria, then that pretty well does me in for another race (over there). Looking at airfares to London at the end of January; they aren't too bad right now. I'm torn!!!

It would be great if you came to Almería, Suzie. Besides, we could try to run together helping each other to do the half under two hours.

Ireland is looking less likely for me in 2012 Suzie. I've just picked up El Gordo's gauntlet on a football bet (result will be known in a few hours). One of us will be running a spring marathon, either in Zurich or Brighton, which pretty much rules out a return to Connemara. Also the Oz trip plus plans for my combined 50th with SP has hit my coffers pretty hard : (

I have unfinished business in Connemara so I'd be keen to line up a 2013 excursion : )

I really wish I could be there too, but January is just such a bad time for us antipodeans to be travelling up there. But at least know that if I can run sub-2 then you can too. Go for it!
Run. Just run.
