RE: March 2011 - marathondan - 31-03-2011

Hi Julie,

I see the second half of the interview is up - I haven't listened to it yet; I'll save it for my long run on Sunday (which at only 8 miles will be shorter than the podcast, for the first time!)

4 min x 8MM + 45 sec walk = about 3:50 finish? (assuming 20 MM walking - which may be conservative). That sounds a pretty pleasant way to finish a sub 4 marathon, but do you know that you will still be able to knock out 8MM for half a mile by the end? If you've been using the technique in training, I guess you'll know what you're capable of. But you can bet that on race day those will be some of the shortest 45 secs of your life!

I'm not planning to use a run / walk in Brighton. Based on my training and past experience, I should be capable of running a normal marathon somewhere around 3:50. But with the fancy dress I really have no idea; hopefully I will emulate last year and finish around 4:45. I'm going to pace myself for 4:50 (as last year) and see how it goes. Last year I ended up doing an unplanned run / walk from about mile 22. but I was wearing a seriously hot costume. This time I really don't know what the effects will be. It's a step into the unknown, but that's all part of the fun!

Hi Dan

8:45 mile pace is what I'm hoping to average for the marathon. I was thinking more along the lines of 8:35MM pace for 8mins followed by 45sec walk at approx 12MM pace. I suppose that everytime I hit a mile marker I could walk for 45 seconds before I start running again until the next mile marker. The only problem with that being that as I'm abroad everything will probably be measured in kilometers rather than miles.

I will take a listen to part 2 over the weekend.

Thanks
JUlie Smile
