Good article, and I agree. I love my treadmill because I can run regardless of weather, time of day etc., and tailor it to suit my needs precisely. LSD, sprints, intervals, tempo runs, hill climbs, it does the lot. Of course it doesn't replace a magic day out in the sunshine, but it does keep me running when the thought of heading out the door is too daunting.

Treadmills, gotta love 'em.
Necessary evil if you ask me. I've finally discovered that intervals are quite good on a treadmill because they are short, and because you can very accurately regulate the speed. A treadmill is actually better than a track in this case.

I've done two half marathons on the treadmill, and yes, you do have to have a certain tolerance for tedium which borders on masochism. But I still find it useful for regulating my pace (I always run too fast when I'm out in the real world); it's as flat (or as hilly) as you want it, and it's comparitively soft underfoot.
