Has anyone got any advice on what if anything I can do to help it so I can keep on training. Please dont say rest because I have waited to long for this chance I cant give up now

Many thanks
John
Sorry to hear that, JB. What's actually the problem?
Hi John,

Get yourself to a sports physio who will show you how to tape the knee cap in place to minimise the pain, as well as some stretching and strengthening exercises to build up the muscles above and around the knee.

Ibuprofen (Neurofen) will help as well.

But you'll need to also work out if the problem is caused by over-use and/or physiological problems. If it persists, you might need to visit a podiatrist and get some orthotics. A good sports physio will help you sort that out.

Best of luck!
Runner's knee . . . sounds like that's a formally recognised condition rather than a general ailment.
I'm off into the web for more info - sounds like something I should know about.
Any word on that from Dodds the knee man EG?
Seeing a physiotherapist will help; they should be able to figure it out. When my knees hurt, I know it is always my IT Band. That tightens up and starts pulling on the knee. You could see how that is when you get physio.

Good luck with it. You don't want to be side-lined for too long at this stage.

"That will be £130 please...."
MLCM has a good point -- that the fix could be as simple as needing new shoes or more suitable shoes, or orthotics.

I've twice had calf problems during my current marathon training, and I'm beginning to point the finger at a particular pair of shoes. I won't bore you with the details, but the evidence is stacking up.

But the others are right -- talk to a specialist, and ask the right questions about cause as well as treatment.

Good luck, and enjoy the marathon Wink

Ain't that the truth brother Sad
I had this a few years ago, went to a physio who prepared an exercise regime and referred me to a really good running shoe shop where my gait was analysed and shoes recommended..haven't had any trouble since.

Hope you get it fixed.
