Day 1. Paul arrives at my place and I'm still in my dressing gown with a heavy head. The previous evening was our Bonfire Society Christmas bash, which descended into a messy karaoke affair. He goes alone.

Day 2. We agree to ride out together today and Paul will call at mine at noon. Noon +10 he calls me to cancel as it's hammering down. We agree that we need to meet and actually do some cycling. Evenings are best for us both but first I need to get some lights. This I undertake to do.

Not the bestest of starts to our training but we are both committed, so that's half the battle won already.
'Committed' might be the word indeed. I await further diary entries with keen interest.
I just bought a bike (for cross-training purposes), though it's the off-road variety so possibly not ideally suited.
Let me know if you fancy a thrash on the downs
I fear Sweder that at the moment one of us would collapse in a heap if we arranged to meet up half way. One for the spring I think.

Training update: Just ordered some lights. The time of my first ride is getting close now...
Lights have arrived!

Tried to clamp the front one onto the handlebar, only for the screw holding it all on to drop onto the garage floor and bounce about 3 feet under a box of Christmas decorations. Searched everywhere but it's vanished. Need to find it or a similar threaded replacement, some AAA batteries and I'm good to go.

Paul is way ahead of me in training....
