94% of your cultural references are obscure enough to befuddle me, never mind the unfortunate non-Brits among us. If others would care to forward me their cultural reference befuddlement spreadsheets, I'll collate them and report back with a full analysis in due course -- before the end of Michaelmas term, to be sure. Hmmm. I know I'm going deaf, but one can rather sense an academic paper coming on, what?
Pardon?
Dan will get my reference (in response to his mention of Ska).
Bad Manners, What?

Aye, I presumed that connection, but puzzled over the words, which I had not in my lexicon. Don't get me wrong -- your stock of these references is impressive and fascinating, and led me to many happy Googling hours. Long may it continue.
Come on chaps, you're sat in front of google. It doesn't take much effort to look these things up. It's not like you'd need to... rupture an artery, or something.
Huh?
I fear it's One Step Beyond for some, Dan.
Madness, really.
I blame the influences of my youth. Too much, too young.

Aye, but there's the thing: Google "Lip op Fatty" and where does your research lead you? Yours recursively.....

Yer know what?

I freakin' hate this forum software.

While Sweder is out of the country, and most of the Senior Committee are rolling around drunk and incapable under some Tasmanian table, this is a perfect opportunity for a spot of mutiny.

Ah.

I will read another chapter of my book instead.
OK, any thoughts? This is a 5 day trial:

Would need tarting up a little, but it's more robust.

Yes, it was an unfortunate typo, to throw you off the scent event more. I wondered if it would link to pics of "trout pout" implants.

Well Skipper, I'm happy to talk code with you while those hearty outdoor types are away.

What is it you don't like about MyBB? Is it high maintenance?

Didn't you switch from something else (vBulletin?) a while back? How does that compare?

As I've mentioned before, I'm also a member of a ProBoards forum. It seems robust, moderately configurable, perhaps not feature-laden... and free. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use it if I was setting up a forum from scratch.

Shurely "write"?

Were you tempted to do NaNoWriMo this year?

And so I spend the evening toying with the idea of looking up scent event, wondering if I have (yet again) missed the cultural reference to some Perfume Expo for runners at Olympia, or (yet again) been the victim of a cruel typo. This time, I will stay silent, watching occasional bears drip into my Weissbier.

More than tempted. I decided to have a go, and on November 1, set off. But very quickly, I realised it's not something I'm capable of doing well. I wrote a couple of short stories recently (well, within the last year) which were OK, but anything longer than that seems beyond me. It's not much to do with technical writing ability, and all to do with having the right type of imagination, along with (crucially) the ability to sustain a regular and productive effort.

Instead i added a chapter to the running thing, thinking I would do that instead for NaNoWriMo, but, well, you know.....

There's something about MyBB I just don't like. Hard to describe. The interface doesn't satisfy me, and I can't be bothered trying to customise it.

Yes, I used vBulletin for about 3 years at least. I liked it a lot but they started mucking about with the product and adding all sorts of stuff that most users haven't asked for and don't want. (The vBulletin forums are full of complaints and people announcing they are jumping ship.)

It might seem counter-intuitive but I'm getting less keen on free software. If I pay for something, the quality and robustness tends to be higher, and complaints are dealt with much more efficiently. But I'll have another look at ProBoards. It's ages since I've done so. Thanks. We don't need loads of features (vBulletin take note). Just the usual stuff. Will report back.

Well, plenty of published authors have started out with short stories. Banging out a collection of those (I'm possibly not doing justice to the effort involved) could be a motivation for you to get arse on chair.

I just googled "export mybb to proboards" and came across this thread, which, while not the answer to my search, does make slightly uneasy reading.

Btw, if you do insist on paying, I think you have to pay to remove ads.
