This might be of passing interest to a few folks around here.
One of the few running blogs I subscribe to is
Lazy Girl. It's not even all that good, really. But it's sufficiently well-written (as you'd expect from someone who works in journalism) to hold my attention, and she's on an upward curve, which makes her story interesting.
Anyway, it seems she's packaged up 5 years' worth of blog posts and
got a book deal. "Only" an ebook initially, but with a hard copy "planned", presumably if the former doesn't tank.
It can be done.
You know self-publishing is actually very, very cheap these days. My brother has just published our Dad's memoirs - a fully professional printed and bound paperback. 30 copies printed for about A$4 each. If we're only looking to publish something for ourselves and the odd visitor to RC forums, then it's really not an issue. No agents or publishers needed - all very simply done at home.
Of course, EG's tome deserves a much greater audience, and distribution is always the tough part. But for anything primarily intended for us, too easy!
At the end of 2011, I decided -- this is it. I will finish that book. So I took out the 35,000 words I'd written with the intention of doing a full re-write, aiming to finish up with something over 60,000 -- which I reckoned should be my minimum.
And so I did my full, thorough rewrite. In fact, I finished it only a few weeks ago. Result? Um, I now less than half the words I started out with.
Mind you, I have only got to the end of December 2001, or 3 weeks into the first marathon campaign. I will press on.
But interesting to read about 'Lazy Girl'. Thanks.

So EG, are you planning to start on 2002, or leave it there?
