Funnily enough, despite being a bit of a folkie (I daren't think which bit), I hadn't been aware of Shirl until quite recently, when there was a documentary on Radio 4 about her. Mainly about her travels/relationship with Alan Lomax the guy who spent his life collecting field recordings of blues and folk singers in the American South. Very interesting stuff. If you like that sort of thing.... :o
